Indigenous artist Michelle McAdam
Michelle McAdam is an Indigenous artist who was born in Alice Springs in September 1969. Michelle specialises in dot paintings, The style of indigenous art she creates comes from her paternal grandmother’s country in the eastern Kimberley. Michelle’s indigenous roots come from Kitja people from the East Kimberley and the Arrernte people from central Australia. Her grandmother (Kitty/Burrel) would sit her down as a young girl and pass down stories about country. Michelle’s inspiration for her paintings comes from the knowledge she has gained through her travels throughout her life up to the present. Michelle also attributes much of her knowledge gained, to the shared journeys and experiences she spent with Edward Blitner-Watts whom she was married to for 30 years.
“When I was little my family and I used to do a lot of travelling on the old road from Alice Springs to the Kimberley region in W.A, to where my Grandmother Kitty was living in Halls creek. It was fun, we learnt a lot at the same time. These travels along with my Travels with Eddie, create the inspiration I draw on when creating my artworks.”
